About Milkyway

It all started when I was about 10 years old. I fell inlove with the story about "Balto," he was the unltimate dog hero. Balto saved the town of Nome, Alaska by leading a dogsled team through extreme artic weather, and delivering the serum to all the people in Nome with a serious fatal illness called, diptheria. Now, there is a statue of Balto placed in New York City, Central Park, for his heroism.

Now, there is a dogsled race in honor of this legend every year, it is now called the Iditarod. Running this race has been a dream of mine since I read about Balto. So, I spent about a year studying on all northern breeds, and I realized that the Alaskan Malamute was the right breed for me. Once I figured out which breed I was looking for... I had to start my long search for the right breeder. After talking to hundreds of Malamute breeders, I finally found someone with everything I was looking for. From Mishka Kennels in Enderby, BC I purchased my first show quality female Alaskan Malamute, her name is Kyra "Mishka Sno Bizzness". I fell in love!

I started taking her to Obedience classes and she got her certificate for Beginners and Advance obedience. After she finished obedience, I started to get into conformation (and I have a blast with it), after going to a few shows around British Columbia, Kyra got her Canadian Championship. I was so proud of her! Now she is my lead dog on my dog sled team and does an excellent job of it!

When Kyra received her Canadian Championship, I got her Hips OVC and her Eyes CERF certified. Also got a complete panel done of her health to make sure she was in perfect health so I could breed her. When she came into season, I brough her to a stunning male malamute, named Kanyn, in Tappen, BC (Kynortuk Alaskan Malamutes). 61 days later, Kyra gave birth to 9 healthy, gorgeous puppies. I decided to keep 2 show quality males out of her litter, Cosmo "Milkyway Artic Moon" and Thor "Milkyway Thunder God (Thor unfortunately passed away in April 2007. The day we moved into our new home in Quesnel, BC, Thor ate some baited rat poisen that was left so carelessly by the old owners of the home, for the neighbors dog to eat and get killed. But it was my baby who got into it. He is very sadly missed.)

At Milkyway we believe in Quality, not quantity! We make sure all of our dogs are in perfect health with all health certificates before they are bred. We breed for companionship, shows, and for working (dogsledding, packing, hiking etc.) All of our dogs are in home raised with lots of love, and compassion. Our puppies are raised in our kitchen, and get to play outside during the day in a large play pen full of toys. All of our malamutes are part of the family and get to do as much as possible with us, they are our kids!
